I’ve been feeling quite uneasy lately with the current state of affairs
in our so-called democratic America. Perhaps it’s because I’ve
spent the last six months in Europe and real news is far more accessible and
honest. I’ve recently become a huge fan of author and New York
Times journalist Thomas Friedman, whose writings are insightful and candid. I’m
currently reading his book The World Is Flat and you can find a few
of his articles posted in Our
World Today.
While in London, Woody and I spent a morning at the UK
Guardian, one of our
favorite publications in the world. We sat in on their morning meeting
when all the departments meet to review the previous issue, discuss the current
one and have the opportunity to question the editors about different stories. When
the discussion turned to the internet and how they were going to survive in
the media arena with such a powerful tool, we were captivated because this
is a publication that has garnered many international awards and is known for
it’s progressive and sometimes hard-to-swallow coverage of domestic and
international news. Luckily, they were one of the first paper publications
to create their website which is now viewed worldwide by over 12 million people
a month.
This experience was just another reminder about the powerful tool we have
at our fingertips. We always contended this was so and have witnessed
numerous campaigns rampage across the world within minutes. And everyday,
there are new and faster ways for information to travel between people and
out into the world. Basically, we have a duty and responsibility to keep
ourselves well informed because let’s face it folks… that’s
the last thing our government wants or offers. We will continue to post
articles that come our way from various news organizations that speak the truth
and allow each and every one of us to analyze the facts and formulate pro-active
plans to salvage our country. I have to admit that I’ve been quite
embarrassed to call myself an American over here, but at the same time, there’s
a voice inside of me calling out to join forces with the rest of the folks
feeling the same, sometimes downtrodden weight of knowing this isn’t
how the story goes.
We are in absolute control of our destiny and need to pull together to manifest
the future that we and our children deserve… one that allows each and
every person on this planet to enjoy clean air, food and water, exercise true
freedom of speech, support and produce alternative-sustainable, earth-friendly
fuels and products and to lead happy and healthy lives. So please continue
to support our efforts by contributing articles, sending us your
artwork and creations, participating in our forum and spreading the word about voiceyourself.com. We
are gaining more and more community members each day and our reach is worldwide.
With deep appreciation, hope and love… Laura
